The audience at the Paley Fest night devoted to Battlestar Galactica and Caprica Monday night were
treated to an exciting new trailer for the upcoming TV-movie, Battlestar Galactica: The Plan. The
Plan follows events from early in the series from the Cylon perspective – showing more of what was
going on with the Cylons during the attack on the human colonies and in its aftermath. The fast
paced trailer showed a barrage of images from the movie, which includes all of the actors who
played Cylons on Galactica, except for Lucy Lawless. Moments of note included Sam Anders
awakening in a Cylon resurrection chamber, and seeing one of the Doral models getting ready for a
suicide bombing mission (as seen on the "Litmus" episode of Galactica). Several Number Six models
are glimpsed, including a new dark haired version Tricia Helfer said was referred to as "Tough Six" in
the script.
We also see Boomer speaking to Cavil about her botched mission to kill Adama, exclaiming, "I shot
him twice in the chest!" to which Cavil yells, "How about once in the head?!" Cavil looks to be a
major character in The Plan, as we see just how bloodthirsty he is, stating at one point, "Let's get
this genocide started." Near the end of the trailer, he proclaims, "We had our foot on the throat of
humanity and we failed to step down on it."
During the Q&A that followed, Galactica executive producers David Eick and Ron Moore joked about
the opening credits to the show and the statement "And they have a plan" in regards to the
Cylons. Eick recalled calling Moore and telling him about that line, and Moore responding, "Are you
sure we want to do that?" Moore said he recalls simply replying, "There is no f**king plan!", noting
they had not at all decided the intricacies of the Cylons history and intentions at that point. Given
the history of those words in relation to the show, they both thought it was very funny that this
TV-movie coda to the Galactica story would carry that title.
Moderator Seth Green (yes, him) asked Moore many questions about the series finale of Galactica
and the idea of history repeating itself. Moore said he was a big history fan and fascinated by the
rise and fall of civilizations. With the series ending, he felt it was important to "bend the show back
to its relevance to today," adding that the fact that the story was "Connected to where we were
was very important to us."
Moore noted some things that changed as they approached the finale, explaining that he originally
intended to have Laura Roslin die before the Galactica reached Earth and even told Mary McDonnell
that was going to happen. However, while thinking over the finale, he decided to change it so she
does arrive on Earth, only to die shortly after.
